Because, it’s that important.

Alrighty then. I am going to break one..no.. two.. of my cardinal rules. I am going to pontificate on the two worst subjects to discuss with a group of people. Yes, religion and politics…let’s throw in another salty one, the state of our country.

Here goes.

I believe we, as a people, are at a very important crossroads, one that none of us can deny, one that will determine the quality of life of every one of us who is alive, and our choices now will extend to generations to come. I believe this. I believe we all need to believe this. It’s that important. It’s bigger than any one of us, individually. It ranks right up there with either World War, or the Great Depression. It’s time we came together as a people. It is the only way we can overcome this apathy, this pox, that we have allowed ourselves to be submerged in.

I believe it is time we put aside party rhetoric, personal political opinions and agenda’s, and revolt against the continual attempt by the power brokers in this country to spoon feed us “sheep” with their greedy, self serving, and destructive hunger, into further submission. It is my opinion that it is very clear that our political system, our economy, and our constitutional rights are controlled not by our politicians, and certainly not by us. We all know the who, and we all know the why. We are afraid to admit it, but these are desperate times my friends. We cannot allow it any longer, we must be accountable to and for each other.

Every person who is running for the presidency is either blind to this, or unwilling to address it, or, more likely, not being allowed to discuss this or have any of “this nonsense” included as part of their political campaign….except one man.

This man has been consistent in his message for 30 years. There is no lack of credibility or integrity. As a lifelong conservative myself, I don’t subscribe to all of his political views, but I will tell anyone who will listen–He, and only he, offers us, all of us, the only chance we have to regain “A government of the people, by the people, for the people”. We cannot afford to pass up this opportunity, because it may not be offered to us again. Voting for anyone else is total submission to those who will continue to hoard the wealth, and further erode our rights and ownership of our government and our country.

To my friends on the right;

For those of you who are devout and worry about religious persecution, let’s be truthful. The only religious persecution taking place in this country currently, is being perpetrated by you folks, against religions you neither understand nor are willing to. You are paranoid that we are going to be overrun by Islam. This is not going to happen, and behind closed doors, in front of the bathroom mirror, you know this to be accurate. You also know that fear or hate mongering only begets more of the same. Many of you love to use the ol’ “Gods will-he will provide” tag-line, I submit this to those of you- perhaps he is, you should consider taking advantage of his offering.

To those of you on the right who scream “We are taking our country back!!”, I submit to you-Yes! That opportunity is clearly present. Let’s do it! But, it aint gonna be through more violence, more abuse, more loss of rights, more of trying to force others to submit…no, it will only come if we regain our power..the power of the people.

To my friends on the left;

Blue lives, red lives, black lives, white lives, yellow lives, hetro lives, homo lives, men’s lives, women’s lives, or any other silly peg hole you can fathom lives…we are talking about lives. Life. They all matter…every single one of them. We all count, or nobody counts. This too, is undeniable. What this means can be explained in one simple word-accountability. Accountability for your words and actions on an individual basis, and as importantly, accountability for and to each other. This is called a sense of responsibility and of community. We cannot have one without the other. We used to be very good at this, we have lost our way. Our grandparents and parents generations have overcome several horrors in their respective lifetimes by this practice. It’s tried and true—this too is undeniable. We need to stop holding the country at large, or groups of people, responsible for the sins of the individual. We cannot continue to go to that well…it’s dry. As dust.

We need to stop bickering like children in the sandbox over who is right, who is wrong, and who should be in charge. No one is right, if everyone is wrong. This is something our mothers and fathers taught us at very tender ages…we need to practice this wise advice. And teach it. Lead by example. Our children are far quicker to follow our actions rather than our words if we don’t practice what we preach.

To my generation;

Stop it!…just stop it. We have nothing to bitch about-we have done this to ourselves and to our children. Take accountability for it. You want to be part of the solution, or continue to be part of the problem? Don’t answer me, but please ask yourself this pretty important question. Put your pride and your self-important wisdom aside, and ask yourself this simple question, “Am I to be part of the solution?” Isn’t this more important than being “right”? We, my generation, have been screaming for years that we “are right”. See where that has gotten all of us. Try emulating your parents and grandparents once in your selfish lives. Oh yes, I know…you all got your bristles up, aint ya? Tough. The truth hurts, especially when we have such super ego’s. On the other hand, maybe your kids and grandkids might look at you with some new respect if you decide to make a difference using more than your mouth. Finally-I am not excluding myself from this scolding.

To the Gen X crowd;

Well, what can I say…the apple don’t fall far from the tree. Stop feeling entitled you little snots. There aint nothing to be entitled to, at this point. You don’t have to like it, but them’s the facts, Jack. Find yourself some work ethic, sprinkle in some core values, and splurge on a few tried and true convictions, and learn some history…my generation has sold you guys a wagon full of rotten apples.

To the Millenniums and further generations;

Yeah yeah, I know we are at fault. That aint gonna fix it. No one owes you yowins anything. Make your own damn way in this world…like my grandfather and father had to. Luckily, I didn’t have too, I was spoiled and led to believe I was entitled to be.

Ok. Now that I’ve pissed everyone off, those of you who have stuck around get the final history lesson.

This country was founded, by some pretty together guys and gals, based on a few principles that should never be toyed with. We aint no smarter than they were. We never will be. The simple fact is, we can only have ownership of our politicians and our government if we are allowed to, and actively do, participate. It aint for the faint of heart, or the lazy. This is Bernie’s message to us. He is willing to be our voice, and I believe him. He is willing to give us a forum, a way, a path, to take back this country. I believe him. A way for us to reestablish “a government of the people, for the people, by the people.” I believe he can lead us to that. Big business is scared shitless of him, and if we take this opportunity, they should be. If we do not, we will fall into the abyss. He cannot do it by himself, he needs everyone of us…the power of the people.

Once again, a lifelong conservative here, who still considers Reagan a personal hero, who is a staunch defender of capitalism. We have lost our way. We need a man like Bernie, right now, to lead us back to common-sense, and commonality. Think about it.

So, in less than 24 hours of posting this to my blog I have received a ton of feedback. This is good, people are reading, thinking, and responding. I felt I needed to add a few more points to clarify, in hopes to further push my message of hope.

First, no one has to “give up” their political beliefs by voting for someone who doesn’t follow your personal party line step toe. You dont have to be, or believe in, socialism, to vote for Bernie because he does. You DO have to understand why you would vote for a man who doesn’t represent your political agenda. Simply because he represents the best opportunity to reclaim what we have lost. If you dont believe we have lost it, then you have been living in a cave for the past 20 years. I renounced the Republican party because they are NOT the Republican party I grew up with, then joined when I was in my early 20s. We all know the definition of insanity. If you dont, look it up. It applies here. If we want to take back our country, and our government, we need access, we need transparency, we need man or woman who does more than talk about it, we need someone who is committed to it, to be our voice. It has little to do with party affiliation. It has to do with holding those who want to stifle us, enslave us, and herd us like sheep, accountable. We cannot do that if we dont have a leader committed to doing just that. Like him, hate him, agree with his policies, or be strongly opposed…it does NOT matter. Bernie has been saying the same thing for 30 years. His credibility and integrity cannot be questioned.  At this point in time, he is our only hope of starting the process of “the people” insisting on, and establishing, a political/economic/social enema that this country is so desperate for. It’s time for the pendulum to swing, it wont happen unless we unify.

Secondly, equating “social democracy” with “communism” is, in my opinion, nothing more than more fear mongering. There is a decided difference between policies that emphasize “from the ground up” from classic communism that practices “from the top down”. By the way…can anyone tell me what the difference is between the communism of the Soviet Union of the 1960s, with our government today? It seems very very similar to me. The ruling class (comprised of 2% or less) controls all business, the economy, the wealth, the government, and doesn’t give a shit about the other 98%, who has no real voice. No voice, no hope, no future, no attainable dreams.  Tell me the difference.

The rest of the world is watching us right now. Do we really want a certifiable fool as our leader? Do we want a person so vile, who has NO moral compass, and who is owned by that 2% I referred to, as our leader?

Make no mistake about it folks–we are circling the drain. Either we seize this opportunity to start the reclamation project known as the American dream, or we will sink into the abyss. The violence, the fear, the unadulterated hate we are perpetrating on each other, which by the way is just what those in control want, will increase 100 fold.

Put party politics aside, put labels and tags aside, put the bickering and pride/ego aside…we have NOTHING to take pride in at this point. Join the revolution, together we can reclaim what is ours. Our founding fathers did, we can too.

One final thought. John F. Kennedy told us in 1963, “There is a plan in place, by the people who control this country, to enslave every man, woman, and child.” Are we going to allow this?

About Mitch Littlefield

I was born into a large family in the mid 1950s, in Belfast, Maine. My family owned and operated three working farms during my childhood, and the entire family worked these farms. It is these formative years, this family, those farms, and that way of life that is the background for these stories.
